See previous notes on Delectable in 2023. The Rayner vineyard in McLaren Vale is regarded as one of the best vineyards for Grenache in Australia. Raspberry aromatics comes through on the palate, typical of Australian Grenache….also cherry Barb thought. With air the palate intensity grew. Jujubey confectionery notes. Sourced from a tiny 0.7 hectare block of 48 year old Grenache vines. Only 210 dozen made. Great value at only $34 AUD for such a small production. My last bottle.

Pale ruby. Ripe almost overripe raspberry and cranberry. High acid and med+ soft tannins. Finishes sweet. Used French oak. Mistakenly called it Etna Rosso

Had this a few days ago and again misplaced my notes. I recall intense raspberry on nose and palate. The Rayner vineyard in McLaren vale is a small 0.7 hectare vineyard of 48 year old Grenache vines renowned for the quality of the fruit. Picked early to show the freshness and aromatics of this special patch of Grenache. Some of the ferment spent 120 days on skins in a ceramic egg. Only 210 dozen bottles made. I managed to get 3 bottles. This is the first. I think the style doesn’t lend itself to extended cellaring. Had another bottle 22 weeks later on the 15th June 2023. Raspberry notes with a jujube character. As in first note made for early consumption I believe.

A bit funky at the start, almost a natty thing on the nose. Pure raspberry jam, well balanced and elegant. Fun to try and it’s nice to know this family is now the steward of this great vineyard.
