Bogle Family Vineyards
Phantom Old Vine California Zinfandel Blend
Sept: always a great month-wedding anniversary, humidity gone, and Bogle releases Phantom. The 04 was served at my wedding. This wine still never fails to impress. Consistently punching above its weight, the newest iteration ('12) is nuanced, toasty and complicated. Lots of smoky tannins take over after a nose that is a healthy mix of floral notes and crushed stone. Tart, jammy, but never in your face dark berry flavors gently coat the tongue. Finish is clean and fruit forward. Buy now. Drink over 7 years. 16 bucks at trader Joe's. In my experience, the wine is gone within a month or less on release.

May 28th, 2016Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.
Pronounced nose of cloves, oak, vanilla, licorice, blackberries, blueberries, figs, plums, cherry pie, spices and black pepper.
Medium-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.
dry on the palate with mainly secondary flavors like oak, vanilla, licorice, toast and blackberries, plums, cherries, cloves, spices and peppercorn.
Long finish with round tannins and spices.
Delicious and entertaining by itself, but would go great with a piece of steak too.
Smooth and pleasurable especially for those who like heavy oak flavors.High alcohol too, but not noticeable.
14.9% alcohol by volume.

Feb 14th, 2016Deep red in color, lots of tannin but yet has a fruity taste of cherry. This is my 2nd Halloween wine for the season. I love the story on the back: in the dark recesses of the cellar you sense a presence, hear footsteps. Why is it these things only happen when you are alone? In the shadows, a glimpse of muddy boots and old blue jeans...the lurking legacies of hard work and determination left by those who have come before you.
