My last ‘13, Vega Sicilia started purchasing Toro vineyards in 1997 but didn’t release Pintia until ‘01 after perfecting their style. 100% Tinta de Toro, thick-skinned clone of Tempranillo, beautiful color, complex aromas of fruit & spice. Aged, 13 months, French & American oak. Intense aromas, notes of cedar & berry fruits. On the palate intense fresh dark berry fruit flavors with oak notes, well balanced with acidity. Complex tannins, long finish ending with elegant fruit finesse & touch of earthy tones.

Deep ruby with opaque center and a dull platinum rim, medium viscosity. On the nose, it has frank and expressive blackberry, cassis and ripe cherry aromas followed by gentle spice and oak overtones. This just smells elegant. On the palate, it turns into a delight with a plushy broad mouthfeel and firm yet silky tannins. Confirmed the aromas and got vanilla and spices in the long and floral finish. Dry wine, medium acidity, medium tannins, medium plus body and medium plus alcohol. Very well integrated with a noticeable structure. Decanted for 3 hours. Probably will be hard to guess Tempranillo in a blind tasting...first time trying a Vega Sicilia wine and I can see why their wines are so sought after! A treat any day really, but even better on a smoky Seattle day.

Still young but yet already nice. It still needs some time to develop. Nice black fruit but also some undeveloped green tannines. Make sure the wine get some air and it is now already drinkable with a piece of red meat.
