Nirea Yecla Monastrell - Garnacha Blend
I was surprised at the fine tannins on this wine from eastern Spain. Blend of Monastrell and Grenache

Jun 1st, 2019It’s also 40% Granacha according to the label. But let’s call it Monastrell (or maybe Mourvèdre from Mencia). Dark crimson and rusty-red in the glass. Aroma is fairly robust. Violet candy, fresh cut hardwoods, black cherry sauce. Bit of camphor and hint of anise as well. Flavor is juicy, dark fruit driven. Fleshy. Bit of balsamic reduction or pomegranate molasses in the mix. It’s an extracted, full bodied Spanish bruiser. Little mint, salvia zip in there too. It’s got a lovely finish of black currants and cedar smoke. Tiny bit savory. This is a very nice blend. Could be a little lighter and express more finesse perhaps, but it’s makes up for that with chutzpah. ¡Vino Fantastico!

1 person found it helpfulJan 10th, 2020Clear purple color, dark fruit and a little smokiness on the nose. Full-bodied, dry but not overly oaky/peppery/tannic. It begs for brisket. Let it open up. Good value.
