Violets bloom on the nose, and as it opens it works it’s way onto the palate with a TON of grace and fine-yet-lovely tannins. The mid-palate of this Tempranillo is one of the most accessible and expressive wines that I’ve ever had at its price.
And here I thought the secret of great, affordable Spanish wines had been exposed. The Obalo is a stand-out.

I really enjoyed this new Rioja. A departure from old style, but not ultra modern. Very focused, streamlined with depth but not too fruity.

So the first hour and a half is like trying to taste blackberries while standing in a tire fire. Burning rubber and sulfur dioxide, with some tart dark fruit. I'm guessing this will be much better tomorrow, once the enormous amount of sulfur blows off, but I've lost patience.
