Bodegas Juan Gil
Shania Monastrell
An interesting varietal to be in a boxed wine, this Spanish Monastrell begins with medium high harsh tannins and acidity. This mellows significantly after decanting for 1-2 hours, and then exhibits rich blackberry aromas which carry over to an off-dry pallate with a gaminess on the finish. Not wonderful on its own but shined when paired with roasted Cornish game hens! ($16)
