Part of a lineup of 10 european wines my wife arranged for a birthday tasting with a number of friends.

Nose almost all tertiary scents of tar, coffee, tobacco, some almost hoppy notes (think IPA), which, strangely enough are not unpleasant. Palate is completely different with sweet plums and blackberry. Finishes with drying tannins and black fruits

2011-interesting Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, black and ripe red fruit, dusty tannins & turned earth

2010 easy drinker and approachable, + structure & tannin

Tough and rustic. Takes hours for the musky suede aromas to subside, leaving dry black fruit, olive, savory spices.

Blackberry fruit bound in leather and oak, with notes of lavender, incense, and sandalwood on the nose. Finishes long and chewy. a brooding wine.

powerful, savory, sense. Chewy red fruit wrapped in suede and musk. Still generous the morning after. 100% Tempranillo. 2009 vintage (listed on back label).

Very dry, took a long time to open up, no tobacco
