Dark, intense, glossy. A very grapey nose with dark cherry, some fresh vigor and hints of mocha. Still young and dense on the palate with a balancing fresh streak of acidity.

The 2014 'La Cueva del Contador' is an utterly compelling Rioja. Immediately, you are drawn to the inky color, which is followed by highly perfumed aromatics with amazing range. Nuances of black tea, Asian spices, blackberry cobbler and milk chocolate all marvelously come together in the glass. The palate is seductive and deep, offering a generous, silky mouthfeel, which is layered with lavors of wild blackberry jam, mocha, anise, orange zest and hints of dried sage that thoroughly impress. This is a complete wine made by the talented Benjamin Romeo, which looks to have an exceedingly long life ahead. Drink 2019-2040- 96

The definition of modern Rioja done the right way. Plenty of fruit that is plenty fresh, savory with good acidity and perfectly ripe and firm tannin. 11 years young! This blends old school and new well! #contador #cueva #sanvicente

Full bodied and tannic. Classic flavor and intensity, awesome in all ways and just a baby. Densely packed with a complex aroma set, the coaxing from the glass reveals a very typical Contador/Cueva character, though it is for sure a few shades below Contador. The decision to bottle only Cueva was a very good one as the wine is terrific and is likely a success from sacrificing the Contador bottling. This is the highest level of premium wine of the traditional reds in 2013, no Contador.

LOCKED tight, hold for a few more years as this was impenetrable.

Impeccable "Toe the line" wine here that straddles between classic and modern styles well. Lots of oak, concentration and flavor but in a dense layered and fresh style that will reward aging. Had the 2001 a few weeks ago and it was a beauty! Can drink now buy must decant or handsomely reward yourself and forget about it for at least 5 years. #contador #rioja #benjaminromeo

Medium ruby color, starting to lighten.
Medium+ aroma and palate intensity of cherry, plum, complex and pleasing sandalwood, leather, and forest floor. Dry with medium acidity, medium+ firm tannin and body with medium+ alcohol. R is has a long and pleasant finish. Great now but it's only to me got another 4-7 years max left. Ready to drink now, further aging and decant are not necessary.
