5 Year Aged Madeira Malmsey

First experience with Madeira and it's actually not bad. Malmsey (malvasia) is at the sweeter end of the spectrum, this is aged 5 years in the traditional canteiro method. Burnt caramel, dates, prunes, banana, and pralines on the nose. More pralines and cream on the palate, a touch of musk and a balanced sweetness and acidity. The finish has a weird burnt rubber note which I'm sure can be attributed to the meaningful oxidation.

Soy Sauce!!!!!! Hard core which is okay because I LOVE soy sauce!!! Also some sweetness notes of maple, brown sugar and something reminiscent of Banana's Foster.

Nice combination of underlying nutty honeyed notes with a tart acidity and mineral bitterness.

Interesting drier malmsey with an odd soy sauce/metallic accord mid-palate.

Dried fruit.

Long finish, sweet fruit (raisins), nuttiness

Appreciable acidity

This is a fun one

Malty, robust flavor. Can't wait to try older ones...
