I felt incredibly lucky to have tasted this bottle with Betz assistant winemaker, Louis Skinner, who is both talented and, as I learned, something of a wine collector himself. The 2012 La Serenne is fabulous, with a nose that reminds me of blackberries macerated in fresh thyme, crème brûlée and cedar. The innate sweetness at the core of this stylish Syrah is offset by ripe tannins, a fine mineral-acid backbone, and more serious notes of game, black olive, iron, iodine, and loamy soil. 14.3% ABV | Sample

Boushey vineyard they have been farming the same block since 2003 the highest elevation block old more mineral based soils. Blackberry compote with light smoke billowy and lavender notes very big and complex bouquet. Big and chewy with lots of jammy fruit very rich and still has wonderful freshness with a long layered finish wonderful balance juicy blackberry fruit very big but has lots of nuance black olive tapenade a bit of a savage note lovely complexity length. Finish 50+ most excellent +

Smells like the icing on a vanilla cupcake. Front of the palate tastes like wood smoke and autumn. A little cocoa, a little tobacco, a little cedar. The longer it aerated, the more vanilla. Got sickly sweet.
