Beringer Vineyards
Alluvium Knights Valley Merlot Blend
Just fine. Maybe there's something to aging medium-priced wine. This has a good balance of ripe red fruits, savory/herbal notes and a touch of spice. On the palate still slightly drying (Syrah?) but fine grained and drinkable with a simple cheese and fruit plate.

Nov 5th, 2013Had this for quite some time - aged nicely - once we let it open up, it was quite nice! Perfect for Christmas Eve dinner with herb roasted turkey & all our favorite side dishes.

Mar 12th, 2017I found this 1996 Aluvium at the wine and beer shop around the corner. It was on the close-out stand and was $25.00, so I figured I would chance it. The cork split on opening, but the wine is good. The wine is the color of a reddish rhodolite garnet. Leather, currants, smoke, dried tobacco and dark cherries on the nose. In the mouth, the first thing I noticed was that there are still some tannins floating around in this bottle. Right off I get cherries and a mineral-like taste, which morphed into an eucalyptus flavor. Midpalate showed blueberries, leather, campfire smoke and cherries. The finish lasted forever and was cherries and cocoa and dried tobacco. For an almost 20 year old wine, I was impressed. Definitely worth the $25.
