Freaking amazing, I hope someone is still importing this wine, it is slate and brimstone, soft tannins and beauty. It’s really opened up and we are still waiting on the Porterhouse to finish on the grill. Pretty marvelous Father’s Day wine

Jun 20th, 2022From prior bottles I didn’t decant this as I knew there was no sediment. One of the lightest Italian Reds you will find not considering Rosato. Mid to light Ruby in colour. Very earthy - cherry skins savoury and minerally. You can almost assume this has been grown on decayed lava flows, which it has. Bought at the cellar door around 5 years ago. I love this wine but it’s not worth the $110 AUD I paid. The grapes from Etnas favoured northern slopes even though the winery itself is on the south western slopes of Mount Etna.

Jun 5th, 2021I was looking for the Contessa but couldn’t find it in the cellar so ended up with the Rovittello which I had only 9 weeks ago in November 2020. A savoury cherry nose with that Etna minerality - earthy and touch of volcanic dust. A light to medium weight palate. The finest of sandy tannins - oak almost totally integrated. An excellent wine with lamb mince. Bought at the winery several years ago on our Sicilian trip. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Jan 29th, 2021See previous notes particularly the one 150 weeks ago. This wine has no TCA or Brett. Absolutely no sediment in the decant. Dried cherry, plenty of mineral - spicy notes - cinnamon. Savoury earthy aromas. Hardly any fruit. Fine sandy persistent tannins. Light to medium weight. Apr 30th, 2019Pale crimson. Red fruits Cherry and very mineral. From the Rovitello contrada on the northern side of Mt Etna. Lighter than I remember from the tasting at the Winery a few months ago. Medium - tannins. Walter Speller who tastes Italian Wines for Jancis Robinson.com says Etna is “the Burgundy of the South “. That statement certainly nails this Wine. I liked it on a 40 degree Celsius Sunday for lunch slightly chilled in Australia watching the Tennis and Cricket on TV! Tasted again 88 weeks later on 22 September 2019 with the same notes. Hints of cowyard and soiled tea towel together with raspberry. Overall quite light.
