The 2023 Bedrock Barbera has lots of bark but less than its usual bite. It’s beautiful in the glass — a pink-edged purple that almost glows — and there’s a nose full of red fruit. But on the palate, it’s thinner and lighter than prior vintages, lacking somewhat in both fruit and acidity. This is virtually right off the truck (released 10/24), so there’s hope, and it was a very pleasant wine, just didn’t reach the highs Bedrock has trained me to expect.
