Shake Ridge Ranch Amador County Barbera

Barbera can be pretty rustic but this is a pretty elegant iteration. Pretty juicy, red fruit, good acidity and tannic grip on the finish. Good stuff and not much of it.

Rich, dark purple in the glass. Shy, reticent nose of dark pie cherry, and tobacco. Smooth, (perhaps too smooth) and ripe (perhaps too ripe)… definitely “New world” in style. I think perhaps Barbera needs a bit of roughness, wildness, primitiveness to balance the fruit. Still a nice accompaniment to hot Hawaiian pizza and late-summer heirloom salad.
