Alder Springs Vineyard Syrah

Very tasty. Still young — decant for the nice herbal and pepper notes.

2013. Tight opening but an hour later it's singing. Aromas of cherry and eucalyptus. Hints of black cherry and a whiff of dark chocolate. In the mouth it is all about the Northern Rhone with just a bit of California comfort. Taut and lush at the same time. Baby fat. Let it age. Trust me.

Upon first opening the bottle it smelt of men's cologne...once giving time, it transformed flashing Smuckers blueberry syrup on the nose. Deep purple in the glass. Light mouth feel, with tannins that tug on the checks. Mid palate flavors of cherry, cola and wild red berries. All this comes together to end with a persistent finish bursting with fruit. In the words of Iron Maiden, "Run To The Hills"! Grapes from way north in Cali and grown at 2600'. Old world savory notes with terrific new world fruits. I'll take more, please!

A cool-climate bottle of floral perfume

What floral, cool climate domestic Syrah should taste like!

Gorgeous, perfumy.

Overly exuberant at first but came together with some air. Really lively and bright for a wine with 14.4% alcahol

Floral perfume. Others say cool climate syrahs are light and airy. This ones no exception. Almost drinks like a Pinot. No game or smoked meats. Mild acids and moderate tannins.

So interesting. Like smoked strawberries. Perfect acid and tannis that keep you coming back.
