The 2019 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard is a wild, exotic wine. Blueberry jam, chocolate, spice, leather and licorice fill out the layers effortlessly. This unctuous, heady Syrah shows just how distinctive Ballard Canyon is. A year or two in bottle should help soften some of the harder edges. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2021)

Outstanding with flank steak. Family dinner after return from CapeTown. Special treat, beautiful nose and rich lingering taste from this Shiraz clone

Nice Syrah, ($31) but have enjoyed other Syrahs more recently, especially WA Syrahs. May try Beckmen Syrah blend again as may be more value for the money.

This was a big wine. Deep, dark, cooked black and blue fruit, smoke, ash, very subtle meatiness, and no shortage of oak. Long, spicy, explosive finish. Substantial, chewy tannins that would benefit from more time in the bottle... would have been a bit much without the steaks. Nice bottle though.
