Delectable- this is the Estate Chardonnay not the cheaper Gippsland Cuvée. Restrained initially (more Chablis than White Burgundy) but with air it filled out to be more peachy than citrus. Drinking well at 6 years with another 2 plus years in the tank if desired. This shows that Phillip Jones’s expertise with Pinot extends to Chardonnay.

This is officially the Bass Phillip Estate Chardonnay but that choice not offered by Delectable. The wine is pale gold in colour. Aromas of leesy solids, cashews and toasty notes. On the palate sweetish, mandarin flesh and white nectarines. Quite developed on the palate with minimal acid and Medium + Intensity. A mouthful of flavour - quite delicious in the richer spectrum. If Phillip Jones makes great Pinot Noir he should be able to make great Chardonnay, and he does.

Very impressive Chardonnay as you would expect from arguably Australia’s best producer of Pinot Noir, Phillip Jones. Citrus and mealy aromas. M+ intensity on the palate with fleshy and creamy notes still with cleansing acidity. As good as a Premier Cru White Burgundy at about a third of the price. However with time it faded somewhat.

This is the Old Cellar Chardonnay - the Entry Level from Bass Phillip. Aromas of Grapefruit and a note of frangipani said my good wife. Doesn’t require over analysis - suffice to say Phillip Jones doesn’t make a bad wine. Good drinking now and up to 2020.

2018 gold with a greenish tinge. Honey, lemon rind, toasty oak and hints of flint and blossoms. Slinky.

Well made medium bodied chardonnay with a nice texture and weight. The fruit profile is a bit exotic.

Lemon, yellow peach, grapefruit, nuts, lemon curd, some florals and a little smokey. Steely acidity and a long finish. Really good.
