Last night we opened the 2022 Babich Black Lable Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

On the nose there are wonderful pungent notes of grapefruit, nectarine, white peach, asparagus and grass.

On the palate there is beautiful grapefruit, white peach, peach skin, lime, mango and some minerality.

This wine is medium bodied with a clean refreshing mouthfeel medium + acidity that moves into a long grapefruit that lingers with a nice minerality finish. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Please spend time with friends and family. Stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂

Tasted another bottle. Pale straw with grapefruit and grassy citrus notes with floral mineral scents. On the palate peach, tangy lemon zest and apple flavors with gentle acidity. Medium+ finish ending with bright citrus character. Tasting Sample.

Lemon, pomelo, gooseberry. No cat piss, so I'm happy.

The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Black Label is a well-judged style. It is nicely textured with decent substance through its bright, firm core. Attractive gooseberry, elderflower and passion fruit flavors combine well. Five months on lees rounds out its edges and lends flesh to the light-bodied palate. $16.00 (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, May 2024)

Very good example of not overly loud Sav. Blanc from NZ: zesty acidity, plenty of citrus, some passion fruit, hint of bell pepper, and some roudness from partial barrel fermentation. '14 vintage.
