Okay, one of these wines I had super high expectations. And when it doesn’t deliver perhaps the rating isn’t quite fair…. Anyway, the wine was not in balance. Strong alcoholic and sharp aged oak notes had a strong voice in this wine and the fruit underneath didn’t have the capacity to integrate it. Surprising because 2016 was a great year for Brunello.

Dried forest leaves, balsamic, fig, blackcherry, cocoa, and baking spice. Enticing nose. Dry, with velvety red berry fruits. Rustic showing mushroom and tobacco secondary notes. Acidity liners with lovey finish. In a great spot to drink with a quick decant.

A nice big, silky, earthy, fruity Montalcino. No better wine to pair with spaghetti and meatballs with gravy!

Lots of clay and stone with very little fruit. Dry as the desert at first, but enjoyable nonetheless. (The wine did turn a bit syrupy and fruit forward after opening.)

v13. Delicious. Soft dried herbs and candied fruit nose. Deep, rich black cherry fruit. Smooth, dry, tight leather and earth finish. Enjoyable!
