The 2018 Chianti Classico is absolutely gorgeous. Black cherry, tobacco, spice and leather bring out the darker side of Sangiovese. Bold and dramatic in the glass, with striking depth as well as translucency, the 2018 is a winner. I loved it. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2020)

Cherry, plum, mushroom, potting soil, cloves, rose petal. Very elegant, fine-tuned and classy. Superb.

Not your grandmothers Chianti. A big framed, fruit bursting lioness of a bottle, & imagine a long life. Blackberries & casis. We decanted but could use more of that air. Still, delicious, & can tame most big foods, tannic backbone there as well. Dressner Importer

Mushroom, soy, birch bark, roast game bird, roasted plum. The substantial VA is balsamic, savory and perfectly integrated. Pure class, as is everything I’ve ever tasted from this underrated estate.

I don’t remember buying this wine which, is unusual for me. A sign, I have too much wine or senility is setting in.

This is our fresh ingredient gluten-free pizza wine for tonight.

The nose shows; sweet & sour dark cherries, stewed fruits of blackberries, black plum, raspberries to black raspberries, poached strawberries, vanilla, creamy liqueur notes, dark & milk chocolate, steeped fruit tea, stewed tomatoes, sandstone & limestone, saddle-wood, mix of black & red licorice, dry crushed rocks, some dark soils, light tobacco & leather notes, rubber toy/VA, burnt coffee, dark, fresh & withering florals with violets and lavender.

The body is full, rich & lush. It’s well resolved with soft, round, dark, slightly tarry tannins. It should drink now or over the next 3-5 years. The structure, tension, length and balance are just the other other side of its peak. It’s beautifully elegant & floral. Sweet & sour dark cherries, stewed fruits of blackberries, black plum, loads of raspberries to black raspberries, poached strawberries, raisins, vanilla, creamy liqueur notes, dark & malted milk chocolate, light caramel, dark spice, steeped fruit tea, sandstone & limestone, dry clay, saddle-wood, underbrush, black licorice, mix of black & red licorice/cola, dry crushed rocks, some dark soils, light tobacco & leather notes, rubber toy/VA, slightly burnt coffee, dark, fresh & withering florals with violets and lavender. The acidity is round, fresh & lively. The long finish is, ripe, rich, ruby, elegant, well balanced fruit & earth and persists nicely for minutes.

Photos of; one of the hillside Montesecondo vineyards, Winemaker-Silvio Messana, Italian style pizza, the perfect pairing and Montesecondo’s cellar.

What a wine should be, an enhancement to your meal. On its own except for the beautifully floral nose one might describe this as being thin maybe even rough and dismiss this wine. When paired with brisket in a mushroom sauce you understand what makes wine such a wonderful accompaniment to the dining experience .
