Aubert
Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
I’m not in at winery or retail price but pre-aged @ $50 on the secondary market, yeah, ok.
The nose reveals; ripe, sour, dark cherries, blackberries, black raspberries, dry cranberries, strawberries, plum, raspberries & blueberries, spice, clove, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, vanillin, anise to black licorice, sweet tarriness, dark, rich, earth, tree bark/sap, eucalyptus, maple syrup, dry crushed rocks, volcanics, limestone with some very bright, brilliant, candied fresh & withering; dark, red, purple & blue florals.
The nose at this point is better than the palate.
Ripe, sour, dark cherries, blackberries, black raspberries, dry cranberries, strawberries, plum, raspberries some rhubarb & blueberries, dark spice pronounced palate heat, clove, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, vanillin, anise to black licorice, dark, sweet tarriness, dark, rich, earth, tree bark/sap, eucalyptus, dry stems, maple syrup notes, dry crushed rocks, volcanics, limestone with some very bright, brilliant, candied fresh & withering; dark, red, purple & blue florals. The acidity is a February waterfall in Hawaii. The finish is a little hot but, palatable, well balanced, nice tension & structure, elegant, lush, ruby, persistent, landing on deep spice & earth.
Hits 9.2 rounding up a bit.

Curiosity got the best of me as I was curious if I wanted to buy any of these with the January allocation getting close. This has a beautiful color to it...red and purple blend with translucence. Baking spices, black cherry, cola and birch wood on the nose. High acidity on the palate. There was a slight maple note on the front palate which turned to a candied blackberry and cranberry note on the mid palate and finish, which balanced tart and sweet fruit. This is nimble and not overbearing, but I believe Rivers-Marie is the better QPR winner here.

1 person found it helpfulNov 12th, 20142020 vintage. The single, most intense wine I've had this year. Decanted and tasted immediately and after an hour. Medium body. That hour did little to soften the palate assault. Somewhat difficult to rate this effort. A 9.6 for sheer, pinot concentration chutzpah but dropped down to a 9.3 because said concentration made it impossible to accurately assess subtleties and nuances. More acidic (think cranberries) vs tannic. Tremendous color. Bashful, this ain't. Thanksgiving 11.23.23.
