Stellar! Entire kitchen smells of an open jar of blackberry preserves, molten black fruit cobbler, spring flowers-decadent aromas leaping from the glass. Full bodied, classic Howell Mountain-low acid with graphite, deep rich blueberry, black currant and truffle. Supple, yet fat and juicy in the mouth. 30+ sec finish of creme de cassis and smoke meat round out this moderately extracted rich wine. Thanks for the inspiration @Jim Trobaugh

Jan 28th, 2019Caitlin's graduation - wine #4 of the night. #arkenstone still holds the belt. The tannins have really mellowed out on these '13s over the past year. Opened at the table about 2 hours prior and there was nothing but pure silk coming out of here. Full bodied, dripping dark red fruits, and with a great lingering finish. Drinking great right now.

Jul 14th, 2018Uncorked for ~3-4 hours, tannins are still there, but still phenomenal. Long finish. Opened up more after a few more hours throughout the night. Definitely enjoyed this one slowly with the folks on the porch at the lake!

The big boy from Arkenstone! Can you drink it now? Yes! Will it be better waiting a few years? I'll never know because it is so good now and I have no patience! Further proof that Howell Mountain and TheSamKaplan are becoming my favorite combinations in Napa. Deep rich purple color, almost black. Dark rich fruits to match. Solid balance and a long finish.
