Arietta
Hudson Vineyards Merlot
Arietta Wines lunch with owner Fritz. We were able to taste through some current releases as well as some reserve wines Fritz brought with him personally. A treat to enjoy these Andy Erickson wines!
One of the better merlots I’ve had in a while under the $75 price point. Lots of floral notes alongside baked black cherries, dusty dark cocoa, and baking spices wrapped in a nicely nimble and energetic profile. Nothing about this was heavy or cab-like.

Didn't present as a merlot. Has aged gracefully. Tertiary notes beginning to present. Still quite sweet on the finish.
Update: @David L detected something off with this example, and as I tasted though the sample, the flaw emerged. It came across as metallic and quite unpleasant. Revised my score dowards.

One of the biggest Merlots I've ever encountered. Night 1, it was in an "inward" state.......dark, tannic, not so friendly, but with tons of potential. Came back to it 2 days later and it's a pleasure bomb if a wine. Deep cassis, sweet plum, graphite, and more. Mouthfeel had loosened up, but this still has a long life ahead of it. Arietta's wines are some of the best deals out there imho when it comes to that upper echelon of producers.

Oct 4th, 2016This was mostly void of primary fruit. With some air it opened to soy, amarena cherries, and cocoa. Purchased from BPwine

Sep 10th, 2015Dark plum compote, toasty vanilla, toasted brioche, roasted coffee. Get over the perceptions of the '11 vintage in Napa. This is quite delicious.
