Reserve Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Apex winery out of Washington state has been increasingly producing high quality wines over the past few years, and this new program is a fantastic improvement to their main line-up, a Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. I decanted it for an hour and a half because of my anticipation of young age, and it seem to be a perfect estimation. The nose is pleasant, exhibiting notes of rose water, wet cedar wood, (NOT to be confused with damp or mildew aromas, more like the smell of soaking a cedar plank and smelling it) clove, graphite, raw portobello mushroom, and fresh brewed dark roast. The pallet was big and expansive, with a fine grained tannin and moderate acidity. Brought forth were notes of ripe blueberries, French chocolate truffle, undertones of overripe rhubarb, dried dates, and a lingering finish. I have to admit, there hadn't been a lot of Washington wines that left me begging for a second bottle, not to mention only $35 a bottle. This wine was very well crafted and does have some Bordeaux like features, with new world flair. I highly recommend going to your nearest Total Wine and picking up a bottle of this. You won't be disappointed. Drink now, or hold several more years.

My first cab coming out of red mountian.dark fruit with velvety mouthfeel and a finish of some chocolate. Big cedar on the nose as well. Good stuff.
