The 2018 soars. Much more elegant and precise than 2017.

This surpasses the 2015 in my estimation. Concentrated, powerful, complex and simply delicious. Outstanding vintage with plenty of stuffing for the cellar.

Delicate, med+ acid. Lighter, more velvety tannin. Not fruit forward, but definite cranberry. Bandaid, balsamic.

This 2015 Spanna was a delight, showing a decidedly softer and more fruit-driven personality- delicate floral layers and a bit of licorice and fennel to be found here as well. I'm having fun reading reviews of very old vintages, and this is certainly one I will revisit. Available for as little as $18, this is a wonderful value play.

The 2015 Spanna is another gorgeous value-priced wine in this range. Bright floral notes and sweet red berry fruit give the 2015 freshness and airiness to match its restrained light-bodied personality. Gracious and ethereal, Vallana's Spanna is a great introduction to the Vallana wines. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, April 2020)

Revisiting this vintage and I’m finding that it is constantly evolving. It’s drinking rather open and approachable right now. Perhaps doesn’t have the attack, precision or intensity of the 2015 but it is nonetheless a very expressive wine with lots of character. The floral component is quite striking, the fruit is sweet and soft on the palate and there is a healthy dose of funk that permeates throughout. Moderate acidity and smoother tannins than I expected, but certainly not lacking in complexity for such a modest price point.

Astonishing: a murky, unfiltered red colour leading to surprisingly fruity plum aromas, with a very spicy finish. I knew this was old but couldn't believe it was from 1958. Acidity is everything.
