Rustic and developed. Stewed plums, medicinal black cherry, maquis herbs, muddy soil, wet stoneware pottery, tobacco and tomato leaf. Palate is intense, concentrated, and shows younger than the nose. 14% alcohol isn’t hiding, but is nearly balanced by silty tannin and juicy acidity. Rounder and darker than the Italian Sangiovese which may or may not be genetically related. Interesting wine, well paired with a casual bolognese style pasta.

Arena's flagship wine, coming from a limestone vineyard that required a jackhammer to plant the vines. Purchased upon release and I can't tell you how many times I've talked myself out of opening this bottle. It was worth the wait. The timing couldn't be better. An inspiring, coming of age wine that beautifully displays its juxtaposition of French and Italian influences. Weathered black cherry, vividly fresh lavender, worn leather, clay pottery, and a distinct minerality that shows depth and verve.

Ripe for the pickin. Time to drink em up. Butter, ripe pear/stone fruit, subtly saline. Rich, silky, great with the right food if evolving relatively rapidly.

2013. Savage elegance. Ripe yet taut. On the nose the herbal and dusty Maquis shrubland of the island rises above aromas of sweet cherry and licorice.

Blocks from Mr Arenas Winery. This is lacy and delicate. Roses and geranium. Crazy wonderful. Sorry folks I am overcome by emotion to be here
