Generally I'm a big fan of the wines of Savoie, particularly Mondeuse with its blend of fruit, pepper, and savory earthiness. This wine just went a little too far into the pepper and savory realm, rather green, without enough fruit to balance it out. Great acid and structure, but perhaps 2013 was a cool or difficult vintage for Savoie reds?

Mondeuse is like a child of stripped Beaujolais and St. Joseph Syrah. I waited to open this but it’s still too green. It comes out an unfiltered ruby with perfumed iodine, dark fruits, lavender, and violet. But it’s watered viscosity doesn’t jive with big tannins. Give 1-3 years.

Medium bodied. Nose. Jammy red rassberry, mint, sage, and riverbed. Taste: dry crisp red fruits, with herbs all on a bed of stone. Lovely and perfect for thanksgiving.
