Alvaro Palacios
Finca Dofí Priorat Garnacha Blend
Tasted blind & I whiffed on all my guesses- because I had forgotten lithe, elegant, Burgundy like sappiness CAN come from Priorat, & especially this producer, Palacios. I adore their cheaper bottlings too, for very much the same reasons. With air it’s rose petals & ripe cherries for days on the nose, & a perfectly balanced palate of ripe dark cherries, but also some gaminess which made me think Northern Rhone at first. A real treat, especially for Spanish nay-sayers

Dec 5th, 2022Brightly fruited, firm tannin, moving towards tertiary with plenty of life left in the fruit. Roasted red plum, roasted black cherry, almost red currants. Hot earth, smoke, Ceylon, dried flowers, leather, juniper, creosote, white pepper. VA is elevated but works nicely for me, lift and almost tightens up the palate somewhat. Almost every 2014 Priorat I’ve had has been awesome and bright, distinctive minerality in spades

Mar 26th, 2022Candied red fruit. So pretty. Long, smokey, stoney. Spicy licorice, tobacco. Biting spice. Sweet fruit on the palate. Massive, and transparent.

Jul 26th, 2021Full ruby-red. Mineral-accented red and dark berry preserve, incense and exotic spice aromas are complemented by suggestions of licorice and candied violet. Seamless and penetrating on the palate, showing superb clarity to sweet, mineral-inflected black raspberry, cherry cola, spicecake and violet pastille flavors. The mineral quality echoes emphatically on the youthfully tannic, impressively long finish, which shows outstanding energy and floral lift. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, March 2021)
