Altesino
Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, Italy

Concur with VM: “Wild strawberries, roses, lavender and hints of flowery underbrush form a vividly fruity yet earthy bouquet as the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino opens in the glass. This is round, nearly juicy in character, with ripe red and black berries that cascade across a core of silty minerality. It leaves only a light coating of tannin while tapering off with a flourish of inner sweetness and floral tones, as nuances of licorice slowly fade. This may not be a classic Brunello from Altesino, but I can't argue with how incredibly delicious it is.”

Aromas of dried cherry, strawberry, rose petal, and sweet tobacco with hints of leather and dried herbs. The palate is poised and medium-bodied, with fine, still-firm tannins, bright acidity. finishing long and quietly elegant.
Though a bit more advanced than I anticipated, really drinking beautifully now.

Definitely a full bodied style but in 2018 quite accessible at this stage even with only an hour decant. Lots of fruit, integrated earth and tannins, medium acid threading it all together. Nice pairing with kurobota pork chops.

Wow…thank you for no more 2017.
2018 was great.
Deep cherries, mocha, and earthy on the nose.
Bright acidity with ripe red cherry, tobacco and tar.
2018 …..thank you Mother Nature
