Agricola San Felice
Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend
Okay, my hands are aloft. I have to admit, I’ve no idea how a basic Chianti - retailing around £13 with a production close to half a million bottles annually - can be this good. Heck, good doesn’t do it justice: it’s sensational. This 2016 San Felice didn’t need much time in the decanter to unfurl its alluring aromas of fresh blackberry, cranberry, dried cherry, vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon and clove; truly a joy to sniff.
The palate of forthcoming, with a supple mouthfeel offering flavours of ripe but very fresh black and red fruits, clove - again - along with tangy acidity and an iron core. The finish lasts for some time, and I find it a wine I struggle to put down.
This is a fantastic wine and, at least in 2016, an absolute must buy for lovers of Chianti.

Ripe dark cherries. Sharp/subtle smokey secondary. Very nice medium body but w more structure than most CCs. Medium acid. Long transition to a nice clean dry finish. I get it, it’s very good but not a 94 for me. 2+ hour decant.

Jan 13th, 2019Gotta let it breathe for 15 mins. Acidity fades a bit, terroir, spiciness, and chalk come out to make this an ultimately well-balanced Chianti

Sep 23rd, 2018Aromas of dark cherries, violets, earth and rust. Palate pops with raspberries, followed by dark cherries and dried herbs. High in acid but it's not the driving force, like most Chianti. Excellent stuff for the price. Vintage 2012
