Nose is more interesting than the palate. Simple and straightforward.

Night 1: fruit and iron. On night two, the fruit fades a bit and nuance emerges. Generous weight, but classic Sangiovese cherry, brown sugar, and even some blood orange as the palate leans out. Would be interesting to taste in two and five years

Enjoyed with P&Pโ€™s chicken Parmesan. Very good. Pre-gamed with sweet Soppressata, parm chunks, etc.

We took no notes but was truly excellent with classical approach and lots of fruit and spices.

A bold Sangiovese ( not Brunello ) from Tuscany. Blood red medium body supported by dark cherry, plum and a hint of citrus. Excellent when paired with a medium rare ribeye steak. The velvet touch of tannin with mild pepper enhances the finish.

Hereโ€™s a bright and lovely Rosso di Montalcino wine; a more youthful expression when compared to the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino wine from the same subregion.ย  ๐Ÿท Since 1983 Rosso di Montalcino has had its own DOC designation within the Tuscan region of Italy. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

This wine is comprised of 100% Sangiovese (as required) and is made from the same vines as those designated for this estateโ€™s Brunello wines. ย ๐Ÿ‡ It seems the primary factor that separates this wine from being a Brunello is the duration of aging prior to release.ย โฐ

To be called Brunello the wine requires a minimum 5 years aging before release, two of which must be spent in oak.ย  ๐Ÿชต By contrast, a Rosso is only required to undergo a minimum of 12 months aging, with or without oak. This particular Rosso spent 12 months in barriques (small oak vessels) prior to release. ๐Ÿ‘

It is medium ruby in color. Itโ€™s clear with moderate tearing.ย  ๐Ÿ‘ This wine offers primary notes of fresh raspberry, sour cherry, cranberry, also black licorice, peppercorn, anise, leather, wet leaves ๐Ÿƒ and dried mint, also secondary notes of clove, nutmeg, and vanilla. Itโ€™s balanced and a great complement and bright, fruit contrast to the rich and savory wild mushroom risotto. ๐Ÿ„
