Addax
Tench Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Really strong showing. First time tasting this. So enjoyable. Fresh and polished presentation.
From @Joe Lucca and Dianna’s cellar. Thank you so much for the experience 😍

One of the 2017 I’ve had that has showed really well. This was opened for awhile before presented.
I would range this 93-94 after another 5-7 years in bottle with an outside chance at a 95 after 10 plus years in bottle. This 2017 will last 20 years from birth properly stored.
This Addax has gorgeous texture and mouthfeel. It’s round, velvety, silky, big & lush. Tannins already round & soft. The structure, tension, balance & length are good now and show greater promise. Blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, some blue & purple fruits, dark chocolate, mocha, caramel, sweet tarriness, expresso roast, well layered baking spices; cinnamon, light nutmeg, clove & vanilla. Light dry crushed rocks & volcanics, soft leather, saddle-wood, fresh tobacco notes, hints of graphite, some dry brush, anise with beautiful fresh; dark, red & purple florals. The acidity is excellent & round. The big, lush, ruby, elegant, well balanced & knitted finish is beautiful across the palate. Solid experience wire to wire.

What an incredible second day here in Napa. Jesus started us off with an amazing tasting at Davies/Schramsberg, Crocker & Starr gave us our cab franc fix, Montagu & Addax put on a double tasting, and Hourglass knocked it out of the park at the end of the day! I won’t post each wine we tasted, but I’ll highlight the best from each spot.
Without a doubt the highlight of the Addax & Montagu Tasting. This ‘15 Tench Cabernet has winemaker Russell Bevan all over it. More of an iron fist in a velvet glove than I found the ‘14 to be. Red, black and blue fruits on the nose but the weight showed so much structure and appeal...best word to use here is plush. The fruit was so incredibly soft alongside the smoke, mint, and cassis. The new Addax Ritchie Chardonnay was tasted against Montagu’s Ritchie Chardonnay and it was a tie. 👌
