12’ Adamvs Howell MT Estate Cabernet. 3 barrels made of this flagship wine.
Another Melka wine. 100% Cab & new oak. Seen this movie before from Melka.
This wine has broad shoulders a black and blue fruit. Needs a decanting of at least an hour or more for it to really show off.

I have had many $350 bottles. You place it in the realm of 100 point wines (which I also dislike) but this doesn’t even hold a candle to it!

I really want to like this wine. The pédigrée is amazing, and I spent some great time up at the winery. Philippe Melka is the winemaker and it is apparent that Denise and Stephen Adams know what they are doing , having 2 wineries in Bordeaux. However...after all the past Howell Mountain wines we have been plowing through lately, we know what this mountain can do! And with a 2012 vintage to boot? This one was 'flat'. Best descriptor of the night. Nothing stood out. Ok with food. But on its own, it did not do...much.

Almost perfect. Complex nose of black fruit, vanilla, smoke, and savory spices. Palate is reducted berries, rhubarb, cloves, anise, cardamom, spearmint, vanilla, and pie dough. Tight, tannic finish. Fantastic but pricey.

Mostly single vintage cab. Very nice. Not worth the price at $325.
