F36 p27 Cirò Rosso Classico Gaglioppo

Thanks to John Rankin at @chambersstwines for the recommendation. This is just fantastic, definitely feeling the Nebbiolo comparison, but more in the way Etna can do Piedmont. There's a warm, generous, rustic southernness to this, which is all part of the distinct charm.

Most tanins I've ever tasted in wine

Good evening Mr. Volatile Acidity. Too unbalanced for my taste. 2009 vintage.

2008. Mature, secondary character. Lots of tobacco, dried leaf, meatiness.

All stainless young vine Gaglioppo. Great baseline expression of a grape without influence from others.

Similar to a barolo with wonderful acidity and velvet tannins. Nice rose petals and tobacco on the nose.

The 2009: all leather, no fruit
