Maybe not a peacock's tail, but focused
Splendid cherry, notes of iron and licorice
After you swallow it stays with you for various minutes. Gorgeous!!

Quite dense crimson in colour for its age. Notes of Menthol/Eucalyptus and aniseed typical of Wendouree. A full bodied palate- earthy, berry, mineral with a tarry note. Might be a 19 year old wine but there is so much latent energy and power it will go on for some years yet. I will drink my last one in 2 to 3 years and if I have the willpower should be 4 to 5 years. Will go the distance.

Another Valentines Day treat after the Ruinart. Dark dark Ruby in colour. Trademark Wendouree menthol/eucalyptus also some mint, gravel, blackberry and a tarry creosote element. On the medium to full bodied palate there are concentrated berry tarry and. Mineral flavours. Wonderful texture and tannin regime. Barb found the wine a little porty and I must admit not everyone goes gaga over Wendouree. From vines planted in 1893 and 1919.

Maybe not a vintage u want to age forever, but texturally this wine is so bloody good
It feels like you drink an important bottle of Bordeaux
Not too big, but juicy, crunchy, long and tempting
To enjoy at its peak have it maximum in the next 5 years I'd say

Still holding unbelievably
It feels like a great Bordeaux with a mesmerizing eucalyptus decoration rather than other kind of greens
There is no other Australian wine that gives me this pleasure
Super elegant and endless

This is the 6th of an original 6. Notes from the beginning have been fairly Uncomplimentary. I have often struggled to "get" Wendouree for all the adoration it receives but this was coming together after 17 years. Earthy, minerality- a touch of menthol. Finishes with a little bitterness but not unpleasant. Savoury stalky and in the Northern Rhone style. Still going strong.

Balsamic, black currants, broad bean, coffee, chocolate, black pepper, curry, tobacco, licorice, minty. So balanced, long, a bit rusty. So elegant, so good. āœŒļøšŸ‘āœŒļøāœŒļøā¤ā¤ā¤ā¤

Continuing on with Clare Valley week. Dark crimson, very youthful color belying its 17 years. Langtons Classification of Australian Wines puts Wendouree Shiraz in the top group with Grange HofG, Run Rig etc. Initial notes of ground coffee and liquorice. Palate of briary fruit, warm spices, minerals and touch of Iodine. These wines are made for the long haul - the brawny tannins only now starting to soften. Completely different to some Barossa valley fruit blockbusters.
