A gorgeous expression of CH from Montagne de Reims. Balanced mix of soil expressions come through as this has chalky verve and length and supplying ripe, ample fruit and flesh to the palate. Candied tangerine, ripe citrus peel, wet chalk, tarragon, spring honey, a subtle warm spice note, brioche and hazelnut. Beautiful balance with the 8g/l dosage as the texture of the wine is seamless and the density of the fruit in check. Would love to age but enjoyed over a couple hours was perfect.

Champagne A. Margaine 2016 Special Club—a Blanc de Blancs made with 100% Chardonnay.

This champagne showcases a fine & lively perlage after over five years resting ‘sur lie’ in the cool, chalk cellars of the Margain family followed by additional time in the bottle.

On the nose are elegant notes of citrus peel, white peach, kumquat harmoniously layered with white blossom, overt mineral notes of oyster shell, seashell and flint, and autolytic notes of nougat, toast, almond paste, & lemon pound cake.

The palate is dry with 8 g/L in dosage, a racy acidity, which cuts through the creamy mousse & mouth-coating texture. It departs slowly.

These bubbles transport us back to our magical visit to A. Margaine in the 1er cru village of Villers-Marmery, an island of Chardonnay in the Grande Montagne de Reims, which is predominantly planted to Pinot Noir.
