Stags Leap District wine from Thomas Rivers Brown, and very expressive of place. Maybe not as rich and voluptuous as some of Brown's other wines (Jones Family, Casa Piena) but beautiful secondary character of dark, damp earth with ripe red & black fruit. Well-structured and serious wine.

Third wine from our first tasting at the K. Laz Wine Collection. Deep ruby red with a purplish core. Thick nose with a ton of layers starting with cassis, dark cherries and berries, cinnamon, and vanilla. Moderate tannins (7/10) with dark cherries and some candied characteristics. Seems extracted and voluptuous with some dark cocoa notes carrying through. Great acidity. Full bodied and long finish. With some time this will further develop and fully integrated. Drink from 2017 till 2036.

Nose explodes from popping the cork. Berry pie, flint, and baking spice. The nose is sexy. I could smell all night. Palate is also great but doesn’t quite live up to the promise of the nose. Beautiful fruit and chocolate. I feel like it’s a little muted because I opened too early. Tannins are well integrated but stick out in places. Time will improve.
