Superiore Piglio Red Blend 2013

Fantastic purity, the mouthfeel and aromas make me think it has a teeny bit of carbonic. This is a Lazio wine from vineyards south of Rome made from the Cesanese grape and puts fourth a wine here that is part Burgundy, part Gigondas, but very Italian in acids. Bright red raspberry and currant fruits, licorice, mushroom and spice.

Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2013

When in NZ, drink NZ wine. And this is one of the best wines to drink. Ripe cherry, cola and spice with great acidity and a complex smooth finish. A bit more extracted than the 2014, but shows a reliable consistency. Too bad Kiwis don't have anything decent to pair with this, because this deserves some great food. — 4 years ago
