Monastero Suore Cistercensi
Benedic Red Blend
So basically, if you grow grapes and Giampiero Bea consults, it doesn’t really matter what you’re growing, it’s going to be amazing. And that’s basically what we have here. The 80 sisters of the Monastero made this red wine from...only God knows what. It’s funky and fresh at the same time. I want to spread it over toasted ciabatta but it’s got the acid to cut through some prosciutto or salumi or leg of lamb. Predominantly red fruited with wild cherries, this is one of those wines that brings me back to Italy where the concept of vino di tavola doesn’t mean it’s basic. I want more of this in my life. Drink now.

May 27th, 2021Cherry, whiff of anise, tons of funk. Medium plus acid, light body, lots of energy. A wild ride!

Oct 23rd, 2020Love it. A 12.5% al red but has some grip and nice acidity. Great balance and mouthfeel. Nice fruit w strawberry, plum, maybe some cherry. Buy more.

Jul 17th, 2020Bright fruit. Depth. Kind of journey drinking this Trappist Nun wine. Really cool stuff.

Apr 13th, 2020Definitely on the light side (very light red, completely transparent), but with enough structure and savoriness to pair nicely with food (but maybe not enough to hold up to heavy dishes like lasagna or steak).
