It’s that time of year again: Time for my family to make homemade Sunday sauce/gravy, with meatballs, sausage, and pork ribs in a sauce made with local fresh tomatoes from a nearby farm. I decided to pair the sauce with this rather obscure Sicilian red. I was excited to try it, as I have never had a wine with the Perricone grape. Wowza! This is a beauty. I get lots of floral notes here, with peppery hints of earth and tobacco. A touch of dark fruit (currants, blackberry) creates a harmony of flavors. This will go perfectly with the sauce! I should also note that this producer is one of the oldest wine estates in Sicily, established in 1469!
