Peaking, I think, this is on the austere and powerful side, but still quite elegant. Nose is quite earthy, with loamy gravel scents, plus and old leather note. Macerated cherry fruit lurking underneath. The palate is where this shines. It’s deep and minerally, lots of savory flavors with some clingy aged cherry syrup notes. Tannins are noticeable but soft and resolved. Long finish.

A cherry, a vanilla and something else. Tasty, but too dry and with short finish. A typical chianti classico (riserva).

Garagiste selection. $19.96. Nice, smooth tannins. Great value.

A Burgundian Chianti Classico, pretty but little too soft and refined. Similar to Castell'in Villa and Monteraponi, with less aromatic intensity and complexity. At least it's a real wine with no artificial industrial flavors, and the passion and sincerity of the winemaking team come through, unlike most Chianti producers.
