Far Niente Winery
Napa Valley Chardonnay

1 of CA's oldest wineries, Far Niente, founded 1885 by John Benson. Winery flourished until Prohibition, when it was abandoned & fell into complete disrepair. Stately stone shell of a winery purchased in 1979 by Gil Nickel. A big wine! Tropical and stone fruit aromas with complex spice and oak notes. On the palate apple, peach and citrus flavors, creamy, with buttery toasty oak, fig/honey tones. Long finish ending with vibrant acidity & mineral character. Consistent. Tasting Sample! ‘18 bit better than ‘17.

Heavier than we remembered. Very oaky and full bodied. Have to remember that.

Lemon, vanilla, oak. Nice acid balance. 2018 on the dock in Tahoe. A little smoky care of the Loyalton Fire. Be safe, drink well.

unbelievable Chardonnay..not a big Chard drinker, but if you’re looking for a light summer wine with a bit more complexity...start here. highly recommend

Pear aromas right off the bat. Strong oak notes at first sip which then with some time melded into the fruit creating some kind of spiced Asian pear wonderfulness. Hints of anise seed throughout finish. As expressive as it is it is never big but instead delicate and nuanced. Very enjoyable. Had with pork cutlets and homemade apple sauce. Perfect match.
