Just too much oak for me. Thought it would mellow with the ‘16 but alas, no. If you are into Rambauer etc then you will be more a fan than I.

Had this at a restaurant. Chalk Hill now owned by Bill Foley, of Foley Family Wines, who continues the traditions that Fred Furth, who founded CH in 1972. Rich straw color with aromas of stone and tropical fruits and citrus notes. On the palate apple, sweet melon and lemon flavors with gentle vanilla toasty oak. Well balanced on lingering finish ending with oak and mineral notes.

Full bodied, moderate acidity, dry. Orange blossom, citrus pith, pineapple, finishes with a little butter and chalk.

Body: Full
Acidity: Medium-
Typicity: High

Butter and pear and apple pie, oh my! This is for the full bodied Chardonnay drinkers in the room. Not quite as obnoxious as most, the fruit does shine through. It was most buttery upon opening the bottle, some of that flavor simmered down after an hour or two. Delicious with baked cheesy gnocchi.

Super oaky and acidic. Wish it was better balanced.
