The 2009 still needs a few years to develop and expand flavor profile. Slightly medicinal notes of fennel, licorice, cassis and leather are dominant. But the silken texture is very appealing with rounded and refined tannin in the mid palate. Pleasure to drink, just a bit closed down and yet to reveal full spectrum of fruit.

the child of Pichon, concentrated, ripe and with very good power and intensity, black currant, sweet red cherries and black raspberry, evolving into secondary characteristics of forest floor, herbs and hints of minerality. The finish is quite long and lingering.

With some decent chill, very nice. Perfect NYE pairing with prime rib (as you can see in the background). For a riper and less “traditional” year, this is quite nice. Only 13% abv which is appreciated. Very typical dark fruit, earth, leather, don’t get much of the graphite. Very nice seamlessness and acid on the finish.
