Château Pontet-Canet
Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend
A complete and luscious P-C, in a perfect place now. Leather, camphor and pencil nose ahead of bright cherry and blackberry fruit, nicely extracted with hints of meat and smoke. Wonderful, thanks @Joe

Jun 4th, 2022Absolutely awesome in every way. Youthful and dark with a lot of fruit. Starting to show some secondary flavors and aromatics but still so young. 00, 03 and 05 Pontet canet are amazing right now but heck 04, 06 and pretty much every vintage since 2000 are amazing. What a top notch producer. This is showing beautifully. My favorite Bordeaux of the night

Dec 15th, 2019Pontet Canet tasting and dinner with Alfred Tesseron.
When beauty arrives, it moves every sense in the body. This is what happens when you have the 05 after 11, 12, 13, 06 & 08. The 05 would be great anytime, not just after lesser vintages.
The body is silky, satin and velvety. The fruits are round, ripe and lush. They truly show the greatness of the vintage. It’s great tonight but, this is a long way from being truly ready. Blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, hint of blue & purple fruits & strawberries. Medium dark spice, soft baking spices, black licorice, both chocolates, moist clay, limestone, dry crushed rocks, old tobacco, graphite, dry herbs, rich dark soils, dry stones, bright, candied, red, dark, blue florals. The acidity is excellent and the long finish is well balanced, nicely polished and persists nicely with a dark spice long set.
Excellent with our lamb chops.

Apr 6th, 2019Great balance, concentration and energy. A lively Medoc wine with great verve. There is grace to the power. Impressive.

2 people found it helpfulAug 4th, 2016Poured from a 375. This wine, even from 375, was really firing on all cylinders and maybe even a bit locked up for the first hour, just shows you that any vintage in the 21st century really should be locked up in the vault, not seeing the light of day for another 10 years from 375. This wine had a classic Pauillac nose. My initial thought was a young Pichon however even Pichon young seems to have more mushroom, more earthy loam and gravel and this one was just so damn smooth in its earthy notes. The wine was robust on the front, lots of earth, mushroom enhancing the youthful blackberry notes. Finished with some peppery notes. Great terroir notes. This wine was awesome, and I think I probably drank half of this while Walter drank the Spoto :)
