Youthful, bright, long, maybe a touch gritty, and green in the best kind of way.

A fantastic tasting and homage to the late and great Auguste Clape this evening. Twelve great friends and twenty bottles which displayed the beautifully original Clape style with little fluctuation in quality. 1980, 1995, 1999, 2010 & 2015 all being table favourites with the three 2004s all showing beautifully despite the challenging season. A rare treat and a pleasure. Rest In Peace Auguste, you were a gent, a pioneer and a champion.

Flat out great at 34 years. A Burgundy lover’s Syrah.

Thin ruby. Nice nose of raspberry, orange and rhubarb. Still sharp in the mouth as the remaining tannins and acidity overwhelm the remaining fruit. Better nose than finish.

Light reddish ruby. Brickish rims. Light nose of berry and mocha, some soil. Quiet in the mouth. Fruit has faded and air didn't help.

5-Oh Bday Dinner... Deep purple with reddish rims. Thinner than the Guigal. More subdued nose too. Ok finish. A nice wine but overmatched next to the 88 La Turque.

A great find on the beach in Mexico. Bright red fruits with a burgundian earthiness and an ethereal nose of violets and hibiscus. Evolved substantially in the decanter, opening up a deep undercurrent of kirsch. A very different experience from the more recent vintages.
