dark ruby violet; plum, roasted meat, hints of smoke; fully bodied, not a lot of varietal character, appears to have had Syrah blended in, wouldn’t buy if looking for typical SRH Pinot; 14.3% ABV; $75

Victoria from Bevan Cellars came to town and put on a wonderful tasting of some current releases.

Really enjoyed trying this next to the Petaluma Gap. I think I surprised myself in that I ended up liking the Rita’s just a tiny bit more. More spicy red fruit and the acidity seemed sharper. Very black cherry dominant. Main difference I got in the two was this seemed to have a more maple/sandalwood note compared to the more cedar with Petaluma.

Floral, jammy, barrel toast nose. Palate presents cherry blossom, a deep extraction and somewhat prominent tannins. Over ripe plums and brown sugar complete the show.

A Smokey barrel toast dominates the nose, in a good way.
Complex and layered on the palate. Ripe raspberries and spice box persist. Lovely length, powerful texture and finish. Bevan is so consistent. I was in the 93 space, while wifey played her joker and suggested 94.

Smokey, with spice box and hints of celery!
Great, structure with mildly gritty tannins. Beautiful poise on the palette. Tight minerality, with a fruit-forward, racy finish. Worth every cent!

Yowser! Bevan makes wines that just shout at you from the wine glass - and I love it. Nothing close to traditional or classic Pinot Noir. Dark bold fruit with baking spices and concentrated flavors, true grit at the core, and colors rivaling cabernet. Black cherry, vanilla spice, dried lavender, toasted black pepper corn, red delicious apple skin, dried sage, black plum, cloves/nutmeg, and cranberry sauce. I know Bevan goes for French styled wines, using French oak and French practices.. and they have some of the flair and nuance, but he has a unique style of his own. None are like Bevan.

Wifey and I aligned at 94 pts.
Broad shouldered and a touch brambly on the nose. Layers of fruit, a hint of cloves and good complexity. Finishes with uncommon density. Typical Bevan pinot.
