BBQ & Zin night!

1 of 5 Turley zins tonight. This eeked out the win for my favorite Turley of the night. Very full throttle without being rocket fuel like. Big blue and black fruits, charcoal, toasted oak, savory herb and a touch of menthol.

The 2001 Turley Hayne Zin is rocking. At peak. Well integrated tannins. Great fruit profile. One of best Turleys for me to date

Still fairly intact, but the super ripe fruit and 16.4% alc haven’t changed. It’s a particular style (like low alc port). Not bad.

Young. A little tangy. Fruity. Slightly acidic. Not too heavy.

@Delectable Wine Hayne Vineyard.

16.2% alc.
Sporting a gorgeous aged nose and drinking exceptionally well at age 13.
In no immediate danger of falling off the cliff.

I recommend enjoying this now but it could also be another contender to save for an additional decade and for fun throw in blind with '03 Burgs/'09 Rhones.

16.1% alc.

A typical Turley from their "higher octane days" under Ehren Jordan (I think Tegan (current winemaker) is pulling ripeness levels down a bit these days) this is showing nice classic Zin spiciness on the nose and very ripe fruit, sweetness/glycerin + some VA on the palate.

For a wine/style that was probably not intended to be cellared it is holding up nicely at age 12 and actually gained in the glass after 60+ min.

I would opt to drink up (or for fun hold for 30 more years and throw it in blind with 2003 Burgundies/2009 CNDP).
