Well made (and enjoyable memories of an afternoon with the winemaker in Seattle) but too ripe and oaky for me tonight. Maybe another 5-10 years would help

40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot. Drinks incredibly similar to Smith Haut Laffite.. toasty cedar and rock dust followed by baked plums, vanilla, and mocha. Pallet with well integrated tannins, Pauillac in feel, exhibiting notes of casis, bell pepper, dark dried cherries, mocha, and a delicious lingering finish. This is seriously over performing for $60. 94 points Wine Advocate - 2500 cases production winery between all of their wines, which is pretty small and totally worth it.

Ben Smith has always been a proponent of Franc, and its beauties are so evident in a really tough vintage.

When in Rome (as they say) 75% Cab Franc, 25% Merlot. This needs air or you'll think it uninspiring (was best the next day). Violets and slight French oak nose. Smooth, clean blue fruits with tannins up front fading at mid palate. Med/short finish. Solid wine.

Out of the gate a bit flat but cam around and blossomed into tart raspberry, dusty plum skin and cocoa nib. 52/48 Cab Franc/Merlot. Well made and not overpowering.

Intense dark fruit, tightly wound...will age well.

A cooler year but a nicely balanced wine nonetheless.
