Calafia Cellars is owned by Randle Johnson. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Located in NAPA Valley the production of Calafia 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon was 175 cases. This blend is layered and balanced. Aromas of black fruit with a mix of flavors from nutmeg, cinnamon and five spice. This wine has an elegant texture. Excellent pairing with Grass-fed California Rib-eye and a great wine pairing with wild caught Pacific Salmon. — 3 months ago
Wow, what a killer Chardonnay this is, Newton Johnson’s Family Vineyards 2019. From the get-go, the wine bursts forth with aromas of burnt butter, toffee, bruised pear, apple tart and chamomile. This has great variety on the nose and displays characteristics of fruit, herbaceousness, oak and sharp citrus. It’s quite arresting and makes for a wine you sniff for some time before taking a sip.
So, the sip? Intense and concentrated on the palate, showing great depth and terrific cut from fresh squeezed lime. The wine expands in the mouth and finishes long.
This really is exemplary Chardonnay and I’m glad I have a few more bottles in the trunk. — 5 months ago
Great old-school Martha’s Vineyard nose but not fully delivering that to the palate. Good wine though. — 2 months ago
Woooo-eeeee do I love my Tavel. Bursting at the seams on the nose while cutting a figure on the palate, it’s like if a Betsey Johnson dress had an affair with a Chanel suit. So much strawberry and watermelon and white pepper on the nose with a hint of…okay something that almost makes me think of Hawaiian sweet bread oddly (but not unhappily) enough. With a hint of your friendly neighborhood potting soil. The palate is dry and sharp, with healthy acidity and a nice wet rock backbone, in addition to all the red fruited juicy goodness. The texture is lightweight satin, which is to say heavier than silk but not heavy as satin but with that smoothness. Omigod Tavel you guys. Get into it. It’s the wine for people who say they only drink red and also the wine for people who only drink white. — 3 months ago

Really nice, deep ruby fruited with a long smooth finish. Very enjoyable. Another bottle in May 6, 2022 was equally enjoyable. Going to have to get some more of this stuff! — 4 months ago
2009 vintage. Smooth and silky. Nice mid strength red. Black currants and a hint of smoke on the nose. Very nice. — 9 months ago

Everything you want in a rosé.Crisp, refreshing, opens up as the meal goes on. This got lost in the bday blizzard but was returned to, time and again.
According to Johnson & Robinson @World Atlas of Wine, Rosé accounts for just 1% in Burg, but is a specialty in Marsannay.
I see why. — a month ago
